Which Mustangs came with the TR3650?

2001-2004 Mustang 4.6 GT

(The TR3650 appeared mid-year 2001.  Earlier models used the T-45)

2001-2002 Mustang 4.6 COBRA

(The 2003 & 2004 COBRAs use the T-56 6-speed)

2005-2010 Mustang 4.6 GT

(These have a different input shaft, output shaft and use a hydraulic clutch)

Most all TR3650's have the 0.68 fifth gear, but the 2002-2004 came with the 0.62 fifth gear.

A custom 0.81 ratio fifth gear can be installed in our TR3650's as an upgrade an extra charge.  This custom fifth gear has proven to be perfect for the back stretch on a road course.

Many TR3650's have failed with the loss of gears 1 and 2 or 3 and 4, or had synchronizer problems in those gears.  We address these problems with new synchro rings, double-hardened fork pins, and the aluminized bronze fork pads.

ALL of our TR3650's receive shift forks that have been tested to be "true" and not bent, or warped.

The original "early" design 1-2 shift forks are always replaced with the newer style forks, as they were a poor design. The plastic shift fork pads were not properly supported and would wear quickly.

The original roll pins on the 1-2 and 3-4 forks tend to bend, or break,
so we use stronger "double-rolled" pins there.

We do offer Billet "Monster Forks" for the 2001-2004 TR3650 as an upgrade for those who want forks that can take some abuse original forks.

INTERCHANGE INFORMATION:
Note: T-45's and TR3650's do not use the same shifter.

A 2001-2004 TR3650 is considered a direct replacement for a 1999-2001 T-45; however, there is a tab on the extension housing that may need to be removed.

A 2001-2004 TR3650 can be used to replace a 1996-1998 T-45 with the use of an electronic speedometer converter.  A custom or modified cross member, such as the one from Stifflers, is also needed.

Conversely, a 1999-2001 T-45 can be used as a direct replacement for a 2001-2004 TR3650.
